Visual Effects

What is Effects?

Before someone understands your presentation, they react to it. That reaction, the feeling a deck creates before anyone has read a word, is now something you can control.

Effects transforms your presentation into a high-resolution, styled deck without changing what it communicates. When you apply an Effect, the structure, content, labels, and hierarchy of your slides stay exactly as you built them. What changes is the aesthetic: the texture, material, and visual feeling of the deck.

How to access Effects

  1. Open your presentation in Napkin

  2. Click the Agent (wand) icon in the top toolbar

  3. Select Effects from the panel

The Effects panel opens, showing the available preset styles and a custom prompt field.

How to use Effects

  1. Open the Effects panel

  2. Browse the preset styles and click the one you want

  3. Select what you'd like to apply it to: Visual, Icons, or Text

  4. Click Apply

  5. Wait for the slide to process. Your styled version appears once complete

You can apply an effect to a single slide, or your entire presentation at once with one click.

Available styles

Napkin offers a range of preset styles, including Ink Story, Whiteboard, Working Doc, Soft Pitch, Sticky Notes, Marker Workshop, and more. Each creates a distinctly different aesthetic, from hand-sketched to whiteboard-style to polished studio work, so you can find the right feeling for any deck.

Describing your own effect

If none of the preset styles match what you have in mind, use the "Describe your effect" field to describe your own. The more specific your description, the better. Reference tone, material, mood, and context, for example: "Premium, with restrained sophistication and strong information hierarchy. It should feel ready for a leadership review."

Choosing what the effect applies to

  • Visual: the slide background and overall aesthetic

  • Icons

  • Text

All three are selected by default. Deselect any you'd like to leave untouched. Whichever elements you apply the Effect to become part of the styled image and are no longer individually editable. Elements you leave unchecked stay fully editable. Deselect Text, for example, and your text remains editable after the effect is applied.

One click, and your whole deck looks like it came out of a design studio.
